Skapinga på norsk - Kristiansand

  • Kristiansand Domkirke 9 Gyldenløves gate Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, 4611 Norway (kart)

Two years ago we performed Joseph Haydn's oriatorium The Creation in Oslo, Halden and Moss together with the Norwegians Soloists' Choir, the Norwegian Wind Ensemble, the three outstanding soloists Berit Solset, Magnus Staveland and Håvard Stensvold, all initiated and conducted by Grete Pedersen.

This was a huge collaboration project between the three big ensembles, where local childens' choirs from all the three concert places were tutored in Haydns music by the singers of the Soloists' Choir, so that they could participate in some of the most exhilarating movements of the piece during rehearsals and concerts.

Endless hours were put into this project by Grete Pedersen and Paal-Helge Haugen, who translated the entire piece into Norwegian. Our concerts were the world premiere of this version, and the response from the audience was full of excitement over the opportunity to understand the lyrics and content of the music at at much more detailed level than before.

This autumn, the following performers will perform THE CREATION at three venues:

  • Det Norske Solistkor
  • Det Norske Blåseensemble
  • Ensemble Allegria
  • Berit Solset, sopran
  • Magnus Staveland, tenor
  • Halvor Melien, baryton
  • Grete Pedersen, dirigent

We will be visiting three venues this time, and local children's and youth choirs are participating like last time. They are being tutored by the Soloist's Choir's singers in advance.

We are also lucky to have some young string players join us in the orchestra, and we look very much forward to experience this masterpiece with them and together form a big and tight string section. In Kristiansand we will be joined by young string players from the Talent Programme (TUP) at UiA.

The last time we did this project, documentary film maker Mona J. Hoel followed the process with her cameras. A documentary named HAYDN PÅ HJERNEN is on its way from her, and here you can see a short trailer:
